The Longstone in Mottistone has been the subject of myth and legend on the island for many generations. It is the only Megalithic Monument on the island.
The stones may have been the entrance to a long barrow which is a prehistoric monument traditionally interpreted as a collective tomb. They are typical of the Celtic culture of the 1st millennium AD.
Come with us on a visit to these stunning stones and learn a little more about this island heritage.
We will meet in the car park at Mottistone Manor and if anyone needs a lift then please let us know in advance so we can arrange this. It is on a bus route but buses are limited so check out times - if you need help with bus fares then let us know.
There is a steady climb up the Downs to reach the stones. Bring a packed lunch, suitable footwear and outdoor clothing.
The next workshop at the Longstone will be Saturday 3rd June when we will be Soundscaping .
