Who is it for?
This is a Sports Leaders UK accredited course leading to the award of Basic Expedition Assisted Leadership. This Sports Leaders UK qualification will provide you with basic skills and practical experience in Expedition Leadership It is right for you if you are 18 and over and interested in an outdoor career, or you enjoy learning more about camp craft and risk management £450 (we are currently seeking funding to provide free or subsidised places in 2017 if you have experience of mental distress or are unemployed).The cost for the course includes tutor fees, accreditation, portfolio and resources for training. Maximum 10 participants. Involves one night camping out. Award is given on successful completion of a portfolio of video evidence based on navigation, camp craft, risk assessment and leadership skills. 2017 dates 31st July to 4th August for the week long intensive course 16th and 17th September is the assessment weekend inclusive of camping out overnight. What do we do?
This is an initial one week (five full days) practical course covering:
The level 2 Certificate is awarded through submission of a completed portfolio. It is your responsibility to complete the assignments and have the portfolio signed off by the course tutors. The portfolio involves producing evidence of your knowledge and skills through a series of five short videos. The course is run in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Isle of Wight where we use our mobile nature therapy workshop as a base. Following completion of the taught course you will be expected to do 12 hours voluntary work at a place of your choosing. You will then take part in an assessment weekend that involves one night camping out to complete your award. You will need to provide your own food for lunch and refreshments each day as well as suitable clothing such as water proofs and strong walking boots. A kit list will be provided. |
